Study of the past is not about numbers and years, or the names of this person or that person, or this one amazing thing they once did. What is interesting about the past is the study of trends across time. How did this idea originate out of that idea, and how did it move and transform throughout the next centuries, and influence decisions that were made by individuals and nations?
Unlike static events that once happened in the past, trends across time still influence our thinking and our actions today. Through an awareness of those trends, we get not only an appreciation of the beautiful patterns that shape us throughout history, but also a clearer idea of what is likely to happen in the future.
