We are all familiar with some of the laws of physics that set the playing field for life on Earth. We are familiar with gravity and many other forces, but our understanding is constrained by our technological and mental development.

Because humanity is not yet aware of any of the higher processes of thought, we have not yet begun to even study most of the processes that make up the universe we live in, and as such we know very little of what is possible and what is not. Time travel, for example, is not actually something that is possible to members of our species or to those of other intelligent species in the universe.
